Lynn Nottage is the rare playwright who has won two Pulitzer Prizes (2009 Ruined and 2017 Sweat). Both are very good, though Ms. Nottage has other wonderful plays as well (Meet Vera Stark and these two).In a rare double occurrence, I saw both plays on stage before I read either of them. I saw Intimate Apparel at the McCarter Theater in the spring of 2017 and Fabulation at the Signature Theater in NYC in the fall of 2018.I was impressed by both, but I was particularly wowed by Fabulation. It covers the old theme of a character falling from a lofty height and suffering many indignities. Undine is a 37-year old professional in NYC who escaped her working class family (she has not visited them in Brooklyn in 14 years). Her fall is the result of a bad marital choice. She has several asides to the audience, which provide character background and also give us her inner thoughts. Insightful and funny.Ester, the 35 year old female at the center of Intimate Apparel, also experiences a lot of difficulty. Her problems worse with her own poor marital choice. It is a good play and it reads well.
This is a GREAT play. A little sad, but so well written, wonderful roles for women of color.
Spectacular play. Well written. Engaging. Wonderful read. Encouraged me to go see the play, which was also really fine.
Nottage is my favorite playwright for a reason. She took her magic, responsible for Intimate Apparel, and created a new, modern world, full of spontaneity, pain, truth, and honesty.

The choice of this woman in this world, the journey she goes on, even the joining of her best, only friend, with her ordinary husband these are both always unexpected and yet the truth of them humanly inevitable. THis is a GREAT play, perhaps Lynn Nottage's greatest though it came after RUINED.
Good price - two plays for the price of one. Well worth the purchase.
